FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

VOCI, Voices of Canton, to Present Concert for MfTWR

Music from the Western Reserve will present another winning performance with VOCI Sunday, March 6 at 5:00 pm in Knight Fine Arts Center on the campus of Western Reserve Academy, located at Aurora and Oviatt Streets, Hudson, Ohio.

VOCI, Canton's premier vocal organization, has been presenting choral music throughout Ohio, various regions in the United States and Europe including England, Ireland, and Italy for more than 70 seasons.  Highlights of tours include performances at St Martin's-in-the-Fields, London; Durham and Coventry Cathedrals, and a joint concert with the world renowned Dowlais Male Choir of Wales.

Beginning in 1939, and then known as Canton Civic Opera, VOCI has been performing opera, operattas musicals, major choral works,  madrigals and musical reviews.

During its long and rich history of performance, VOCI served as Opera Company-in-residence at Kent State Stark campus and later moved to Walsh College as Opera Company-in-residence.  It's current home is Canton's Civic Center. VOCI, an Italian word meaning many voices, today includes the adult choir, children's and high school choirs , as well as,  a bell choir.

Loren Veigel, Director, adult chorus, is the current music leader in the long and rich history of Voci.   A native of Massillon, Ohio, Mr. Veigel served thirty-one years in secondary choral music education.  A graduate of Mount Union College, he earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree, studying choral music with Cecil Stewart and Bruce Browne. His graduate mentors include Paul Christiansen and Rodney Eichenberger.  Veigel received a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona, where he studied with Maurice Skones.

Mr. Veigel’s choirs have performed in many states throughout the US, Canada and Europe. Loren founded the Walsh University Chorale, serving there for more than five years, and is presently employed by the University of Akron, where he works with vocal music student teachers and teaches graduate secondary choral methods. A member of the American Guild of Organists, Mr. Veigel served as choirmaster and organist at St. Paul’s.

VOCI's March 6th program includes:  John Ness Beck's Vision of Saint John, Michael Martins' Awakening,  selection of folk songs from around the world, patriotic songs, and Broadway show tunes.
