VOCI,
Voices of Canton, to Present Concert for MfTWR
Music from the Western Reserve will present another winning
performance with VOCI Sunday, March 6 at 5:00 pm in Knight Fine Arts
Center on the campus of Western Reserve Academy, located at Aurora
and Oviatt Streets, Hudson, Ohio.
VOCI, Canton's premier vocal organization, has been presenting
choral music throughout Ohio, various regions in the United States
and Europe including England, Ireland, and Italy for more than 70
seasons. Highlights of tours include performances at St
Martin's-in-the-Fields, London; Durham and Coventry Cathedrals, and
a joint concert with the world renowned Dowlais Male Choir of
Wales.
Beginning in 1939, and then known as Canton Civic Opera, VOCI has
been performing opera, operattas musicals, major choral works,
madrigals and musical reviews.
During its long and rich history of performance, VOCI served as
Opera Company-in-residence at Kent State Stark campus and later
moved to Walsh College as Opera Company-in-residence. It's current
home is Canton's Civic Center. VOCI, an Italian word meaning many
voices, today includes the adult choir, children's and high school
choirs , as well as, a bell choir.
Loren Veigel, Director, adult chorus, is the current music leader in
the long and rich history of Voci. A native of Massillon, Ohio,
Mr. Veigel served thirty-one years in secondary choral music
education. A graduate of Mount Union College, he earned a Bachelor
of Music Education degree, studying choral music with Cecil Stewart
and Bruce Browne. His graduate mentors include Paul Christiansen and
Rodney Eichenberger. Veigel received a Master of Music in Choral
Conducting from the University of Arizona, where he studied with
Maurice Skones.
Mr. Veigel’s choirs have performed in many states throughout the US,
Canada and Europe. Loren founded the Walsh University Chorale,
serving there for more than five years, and is presently employed by
the University of Akron, where he works with vocal music student
teachers and teaches graduate secondary choral methods. A member of
the American Guild of Organists, Mr. Veigel served as choirmaster
and organist at St. Paul’s.
VOCI's March 6th program includes: John Ness Beck's
Vision of Saint John, Michael Martins' Awakening, selection of folk
songs from around the world, patriotic songs, and Broadway show
tunes.

at The Learned Owl in Hudson or at the door concert night. Students
attend the concerts at no cost and may get tickets at the door. For
